The Maddahi Approach
Quality of Life
Of course there are patients who go to the dentist because they have a toothache, or they need an implant, have gum disease, or any of the other reasons someone might need something taken care of. But what about those patients who suffer from a different kind of pain? Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, DDS explains that many of the patients who come to his office seeking treatment are plagued by a pain that goes widely untreated by his colleagues, because it’s not the kind of pain they’re taught to treat.
“Too many people come in to see me saying the same thing. They tell me they don’t leave the house, or never smile without covering their mouth because they are so ashamed of their teeth. These patients have held themselves back from happiness because of severe problems with the expression of that happiness—smiling and laughing. It’s very painful for them, but many doctors turn them away because they’re not experiencing physical pain. What I see, however, is just as crippling.
“One of the most rewarding things about my job is hearing my patients tell me that after this work they can smile for the first time in years, or maybe the first time in their lives, without feeling self conscious. Being able to smile and laugh freely brings youth to you more than any cosmetic procedure ever could in my opinion. Nothing is more beautiful than happiness.”
Dr. Maddahi’s developments have given thousands of people smiles they can be happy to show off every day, and this is one of the most common statements in Anti-Aging Dentistry’s patient testimonials! See for yourself in these stunning before & afters.
Pain Free Dentistry
Most people avoid the dentist! You might even be familiar with sayings such as, “like a trip to the dentist” or “worse than a root canal” when referring to a terrible experience. This dislike comes mainly from the pain associated with sitting in that reclining chair and opening wide. From the anesthesia to the drill itself, nothing about the dentist seems painless… until now.
Pain Free Dentistry is a concept that has been in development over the last decade, and with today’s cutting edge technology, it is finally a reality. The 3 things that cause the most distress in dentistry are:
- The injection of anesthetics
- The noise of the drill
- The drill itself

When anesthetic is injected, there is often a burning sensation that is caused by the chemical epinephrine. In Pain Free Dentistry, this is avoided by using anesthetics that do not contain this chemical.
High tech lasers are an incredible alternative to drills. They can be used without any anesthetic at all for quick and painless work. These lasers also eliminate the sound of the drill, which causes quite a bit of discomfort for many patients.
When it’s not possible to use a laser due to the depth of the infection, electric handpieces and a frequent change of burs (the drill bit) can speed up the process by about 40%. Speed in combination with noise canceling headphones along with music or a movie can decrease the stress of dental work significantly!
The faster a patient is through the work, and the less they experience the typical sights and sounds associated with dental work, the less they’ll experience the pain of it. It’s really as simple as that!
High-Tech Dentistry
To deliver the very best in any medical field, you must also operate with the very best materials and technologies. This is what makes it possible to get the results desired in the least amount of time. Anti-Aging Dentistry is a new concept for the medical world with a progressive viewpoint on aging and what that might mean for each individual. As such, the procedures involved in Anti-Aging Dentistry are the most cutting edge technologies available.
Anti-Aging Dentist Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, DDS explains the 3 key technologies that set this field above the rest in speed, efficiency and quality.
“I have always put a lot of energy into making sure that my office has the very best technology available anywhere to deliver results that are both perfect and fast, so when I set out to pioneer Anti-Aging Dentistry this was one of my main focuses.
“The 3 technologies that set Anti-Aging Dentistry apart are lasers, digital x-rays, and electric hand pieces.”
Lasers
The first and most revolutionary aspect of Anti-Aging Dentistry is the laser technology it utilizes. Dr. Maddahi had his eyes on lasers for many years before they were powerful enough to be employed for the dental field, and now, over a decade later, they’re making dentistry faster and more painless than ever.
Lasers can be used to reshape or correct gums and even to remove some cavities. Cold lasers have the added benefit of producing no heat, thereby producing no pain for the patient. In fact, lasers have proven produce a numbing effect on the teeth. This means if Dr. Maddahi starts on a cavity with a laser and ends with a drill, he may not ever use anesthetic due to the numbing effects of the laser.
So now we have lasers making it possible for patients to have their gums reshaped with no recovery time or stitches, and in many cases, cavities removed without anesthetic.
Digital X-Rays
The difference between digital x-rays and traditional x-rays is not small. For one thing, digital x-rays develop instantly and the patient is exposed to 90% less radiation than with traditional x-rays. This reason alone would be enough for most patients to want digital x-rays, but then you take into account the impact of traditional x-rays development solution on the environment and it becomes a no-brainer.
Traditional x-rays have to be developed in a dark room and the solution used is considered hazardous and has to be disposed in several complicated steps. The fact that they have to be developed over several hours also means that it is impossible to know if they were accurate enough to use the first time or if they will need to be retaken.
Digital x-rays develop in just seconds on a computer monitor with no hazardous waste and can even be lightened on the computer if necessary later. This makes them much more efficient and better for the patient and the environment all around.
Electric Hand Piece
One of the aspects of dentistry that disturbs people most, both physically and emotionally, is the drill. The sound of the drill has been found to cause just as much discomfort for the patient as anything else they may encounter at the dentist. This is why it is important to make sure that the fastest and most effective drill on the market is being used.
Dr. Maddahi began using an electric hand drill over a decade ago after discovering that its power was not as affected by pressure as traditional drills. This switch cut down on the time of the various procedures by 20%, which means 20% less time spent in the chair for patients, and this tends to be a huge relief.
